In commemoration of the marriage of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, the Royal Mint has been authorised to strike a commemorative coin.
A maximum of only 250,000 coins will be issued in sterling silver in proof quality for world wide distribution.
The reverse of the coin features the profiles of The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer in a contemporary and informal portrayal. The design was prepared by Philip Nathan, a former Royal Mint engraver. His initials "P.N." can be seen just below the portrait of Prince Charles.
The design on the obverse is the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II created by Arnold Machin, RA, OBE. The obverse design has been depicted on nearly all United Kingdom coinage since 1968. It shows Her Majesty wearing the tiara which was a wedding present from her grandmother, the late Queen Mary.
